Fall Festival Press Release

Once again, the SCARECROWS ARE COMING TO TOWN! The deadline to register for the Scarecrow Contest/Competition has been extended! To be included in the map and the competition you must register your entry no later than 3 p.m., Wednesday, October 5, 2016. Registration forms are available online at www.chesterill.com, by visiting Chester City Hall or by emailing chesterrecreation@chesterill.com

Everyone is invited to display a scarecrow or Scarecrow grouping for the entire community to enjoy. Scarecrows may be displayed in the park, or at your home or business. There will be 5 categories: Children (open to individuals 18 years of age and younger), Children’s Groups/Clubs/Organizations {18 years of age and younger} (scouts, youth groups and children’s clubs), Family (children and adult family members), Adult (over 18 years of age) and Business/Club/Organization/Group (adult over 18 years of age).

A Scarecrow Map will be available with all the displays.

You must be registered at City Hall and have a sign with your creation’s title/name, clearly posted, on your Scarecrow display to be included in the judging. Judging will begin at 1 p.m., October 15th. Winners will be announced at 4 p.m. at the Information Stand in Cole Memorial Park.

First place will receive $25, second and third will receive ribbons, in each category.

The Scarecrow Map will be available Thursday, October 13th.

Local musicians will be featured for the community to enjoy. Bill Lang, Jackie Hopkins, and Dennis Prine are scheduled to appear. Do you or someone you know have musical talent and are willing to share that with the community? Call the Recreation Director’s office, we would love to have you perform.

New this year are the Open Air Markets. The markets are open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is still time to register for the markets. Contact the Recreation Director’s office for more information.

The Pickers Market will include vintage, collectibles, antiques, repurposed, refurbished, and upcycled items. Items for repurposing, barn finds, primitives and uniques. No firearms, live ammunition, live animals, pornographic material. Yard sale items, flea market items, modern clothing, DVDs, CDs, modern video equipment, and etc. are permitted in this open air market.

The, Oh! So, Crafty Market is limited to merchandise that has been handcrafted by the seller. Crafters must attest to making all or a major part (over 50%) of all wares presented. Resale of any purchased material is strictly prohibited. No “Garage Sale” or “Flea Market” items are allowed. Crafters may not offer food or drinks without prior approval.

The Art in the Park Market will have only original works of art. No mass produced items.

CATEGORIES: CLAY, FIBER, PAINTING, PRINTMAKING, DRAWING, CERAMICS, GLASS, JEWELRY, MUSIC, TWO DIMENSIONAL, PHOTOGRAPHY, and SCULPTURE, DECORATIVE AND FINE WOOD.

The Party Line Market is limited to merchandise that is usually sold through catalog or home parties. One distributor per company will be allowed.

This year’s Fall Festival will include a Food Truck Rumble. Chefs, restaurateurs, groups, organizations and caterers are invited to bring their trucks, trailers, tents, tables and pop-ups for a day of food packed fun.

Another new item this year is the Inflatables and Rides. We will have a couple inflatables and rides for the kids to enjoy, including the Turbo Tubs.

You will want to come by and visit Avry Sebastian, the Face Painting Master.

The Kids Creation Station, operated by Miss Cherie, is a must do. Stop by there and get your hands a little gooey making an interesting toy.

The Chester Public Library will be on hand with a “Make and Take” Craft.

The Family Hayride and the S’mores and Weenie Roast will be held 4-6 p.m.
