TO ALL CITY OF CHESTER RESIDENTS:
The city was in need to review and revise some policies in order to reduce fuel and labor costs and to make better use of your tax dollars. The following is the new Clean Up and Pick Up Program for the City of Chester.
Yard Trimming and Small Limbs Pick-up:
The free pickup of yard trimmings and small limbs will continue. Chester residents must call the city maintenance shop answering machine at 826-3712 and clearly leave address to be put on the weekly pick-up list. These items must be bagged or bundled. Gumballs can also be bagged for pick up. The city is asking all residents to start using biodegradable lawn bags instead of plastic trash bags. The city will continue to pick up limbs and branches as needed after storms. DO NOT PUT YARD WASTE IN GREEN CITY OF CHESTER TRASH TOTES. The trash company will not pick up or empty trash totes contain any yard waste.
Vac-Truck Leaf Pick-up:
The city also offers the fall leaf pick-up program with the Leaf Vac-Truck usually starting early November until late November or early December. Residents are asked to rake leaves and pile them up to the curb on the front street or in alley for pick-up. Please keep leaves out of gutters and out of streets. During the city leaf pick up, please avoid parking vehicles on streets next to piles of leaves during city working hours. The leaf vac will not be able to reach the piles of leaves around parked cars. Residents should also call the city maintenance shop answering machine at 826-3712 to leave address for the pick-up list. Residents can also bag leaves prior to and after these dates to be put on a pick-up list when vac truck is not in use. Please use the biodegradable lawn bags.
BIODEGRADABLE LAWN BAGS ARE AVAILABLE AT WAL-MART, ACE HARDWARE AND STALLMAN HARDWARE.
Disposal of Large Metal Items:
The city will accept large metal items (washers, dryers, hot water heaters, refrigerators and other metal items) at the city maintenance shop (street department garage) for residents of Chester. Residents can call and arrange a drop off time during normal hours from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. This service is for Chester residents who are utility customers. Individuals will be asked to present an Illinois Drivers License and/or Chester utility bill. You must have permission and a city employee must be present when dropping off items.
Clean Up Events:
The City of Chester will hold one “CLEAN UP” event each year (Late Spring – usually first week in June). This will be advertised in local newspapers in advance. During “CLEAN UP” week, residents may put any large items for disposal out by the curb for pick-up. It is preferred that you call 826-3712 to be put on a pick-up list. The city maintenance staff will pick up these items. Elderly or disabled residents may call 826-3712 or 826-5114 to make other arrangements for any of these City services.
Debris from remodeling, roofing materials, old tires, batteries, hazardous waste, etc., CAN NOT be accepted by the City of Chester. These items must be taken to a licensed trash relay station for proper disposal or dumpsters are available through Panther City Hauling (618-357-9844). There are two licensed trash relay stations in the area:
1. The Perryville Trash Relay Station (573)-547-8098 located on Missouri Hwy. #51 is 7 miles from the Chester Bridge.
2. The CWI Trash Relay Station (800) 631-1156 located 1.5 miles east of Sparta on Illinois Hwy. #154 is 23 miles from Chester.
