Clean Up Days will be June 10, 11, 13 & 14 this year. Please read about the new changes:
The City of Chester will now hold “CLEAN-UP DAYS” the week after the community yard sale. (Community Yard Sale date is June 8) Days are June 10th, 11th, 13th and 14th. For the clean-up days, Chester residents may put out a “reasonable” amount of items for disposal on your regular trash pickup day only. The city maintenance staff will pick up these items. Staff will have discretion on “reasonable” amount. This will be a “one time” pickup. The trash company will pick up your normal household trash so make sure the trash company can access your trash tote. Please call the City Maintenance Department at 618-826-3712 ahead of time and leave your address on the machine so you can be added to the pickup list. Elderly or disabled residents may call 618-826-5114 to make special arrangements for pickup. This information will be advertised in local newspapers in advance.
ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED: Electronics, remodeling debris, roofing materials, tires, batteries, general household trash, yard waste and hazardous waste materials.
Wondering what type of items are acceptable? Lots of things like clothes, home decor, decorations, toys, furniture, mattresses, metal items, appliances, fixtures like toilets and sinks, dried up paint, carpet (cut small enough to handle), bicycles, grills, pool toys, patio furniture, lawn mowers, sports equipment, etc…..just not anything in the “Items Not Accepted” paragraph. IEPA bans these items from the landfills. Hope this helps!!
