Chester's "Christmas on the River" Celebration
December 4, 5 & 6, 2009 Plans are being made for the City of Chester’s traditional Christmas on the River celebration. The 21st annual festival will be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday; December 4, 5 & 6. According to co-chairmen Bertha Mae Blechle and Eileen Gordon, a full schedule of activities is being planned and many of them are new events. The theme for the weekend will be “Christmas at the North Pole”. It will be emphasized throughout the weekend with the various activities planned and especially during the lighted Christmas parade, which has proven to be a crowd pleaser. The lighted Christmas parade will be held on Friday evening starting at 7:00 p.m. It will start at Chester High School on Swanwick Street and follow the parade route to the Randolph County Courthouse on Taylor Street. The committee in charge is made up of Patti Carter, Connie Malone, Cherie Diercks and Judy Wunderlich. They are urging everyone to make plans to take part – such as floats, vehicles, musical groups and marchers. They recalled that last year the little children who rode and marched in the parade singing carols and waving to the spectators were truly enjoying themselves. “We’re not especially looking for large professionally made floats” a spokesman for the committee said, “we want the parade to be something that everyone can take part in and enjoy, something that sets the tone of the celebration”. Anyone who wishes more information regarding the lighted parade can call 618-826-1430. A schedule of activities is being formulated now and anyone interested in taking part may contact Bertha Mae Blechle at 618-826-4187 or Eileen Gordon at 618-826-4311. |
